Nearly half the population in Qinghai Province is comprised of several different ethnic minority people. The main ethnic groups are listed below.

Tibetan nationality               Population in China: 5,416,021 (in 2005); currently ~1,085,000 in Qinghai province

Hui nationality                        Population in China: 9,816,802 (in 2005); currently ~830,000 in Qinghai province

Tu nationality                          Population in China: 241,198 (in 2005); currently ~200,000 in Qinghai province

Mongolian nationality          Population in China: 5,813,947 (in 2005)

Salar nationality                      Population in China: 104,503 (in 2005)

Kazak nationality                    Population in China: 1,250,000 (in 2005)
